Woolen sweaters for the children of the RODEC daycare center
Winter is coming… We thank the Fokdal family and their friends from Denmark who visited us at the RODEC day care center and donated handmade sweaters for all the children!
Two new members in our committee
During the 2023 General Assembly – the 25th since the association was founded – the Kam For Sud committee was enriched with two new members: Giusy Aebischer, a nurse, and Mario Casella, a film director, writer and mountain guide, both of whom were warmly applauded by the members gathered in the Bellinzona City Council room. They will join economist Michele Passardi and project coordinator Silvia Lafranchi Pittet in conducting the association’s activities. On the other hand, after 15 years of intensive work, President Gian Antonio Romano (on the right in the photo), whom the association would like to thank warmly for his great commitment, is leaving office.
The Association can continue to carry out its various projects in Nepal thanks to the essential commitment of Enrica Zoppi, who is responsible for the secretariat and for the scholarships, and Luisa Soldati, who is in charge of the two Bazaars, assisted by Petra Tomasini in Locarno and Antonella Bonzanigo in Lugano, as well as by a large group of volunteers.
On October 18th 2022 we open our social business hotel in Kathmandu
…which means fair wages for employees and the entire income donated to our local NGO partner. After 25 years of collaboration with our Nepalese friends, we are all excited about this step, which will be accompanied by a feeling of greater autonomy and dignity for the local NGO.
This historical house in the centre of Patan (south of Kathmandu) has become a small guest house, in which some of our grown-up children can learn a profession in the tourism sector. In addition, they contribute with their work to support the children home in Tathali, so that other orphan or abandoned children can live their childhood peacefully: a circular story that we like very much.
Shanti Shrestha was one of the first orphan girls supported by Kam For Sud, she is now an adult, has studied Business Administration and is happy to take over the management of this Guest House. She is assisted in her training by Sarah Schwarzenbach, a professional in the hotel sector (in the photo, first from the left, with her husband and daughter, followed by Silvia -projects coordinator- Shanti and Rajan -Nepalese projects coordinator). The photo, taken in April 2022, sealed the beginning of a new adventure for everyone and six months later we are now ready to open.
It will be a pleasure for us to welcome at the Newa Chen Guest House the guests who would like to experience the Kathmandu Valley from a privileged point of view, immersed in the architectural balance of authentic Newar culture and encouraging our young people to become every day better in their job.

Oxygen concentrators for Nepal
The 20 oxygen concentrators we sent to Nepal during the health crisis for Covid’s Indian variant were delivered in July 2021 to several hospitals in the districts of Bhaktapur, Dolakha and Ramechhap. A drop in the ocean at a time of crowded hospitals and queues of people in respiratory crisis, but they brought relief to many people.
