Distant sponsorships in Nepal
In Nepal, many children live in difficult conditions. In cases of particularly strong poverty, as well as when family structures are especially fragile, they cannot attend school. In the worst cases, they become victims of different forms of abuse and exploitation, such as factory labour and prostitution. Often left to there own devices, these children have little to no control over their future. As a response to this situation, Kam For Sud created the programme “PADMA Nepal” in January 2002.
Objectives and Strategy
Kam For Sud’s sponsorship programme centers on children living in particularly difficult conditions, giving them an opportunity to attend school. Each case is analysed individually and in depth by the people responsible for Kam For Sud. Priority is always givin to solutions allowing the child to stay in his family, or at least in his village. When the latter is absolutely impossible, the child can also be accepted at the farm-orphanage in Tathali.
Results
Today, approx. 150 children go to school regularly thanks to the sponsorship programme. They are all very happy of having had this new possibility opened to them, are studying with determination, and several have obtained excellent grades.
