Saipu DHAKA
Saipu Developing Handicraft And Know-how Activities
The project Saipu DHAKA started in 2003, thanks to the initiative of a group of inhabitants of Saipu. It aims at supporting the handicraft production of traditional, decorated, cotton fabrics -“dhaka” in Nepali-. Encouraged by a local NGO, some 15 illiterate women of Saipu started producing this kind of textile, in hope of improving their own economic condition. Kam For Sud supports this initiative by finding selling points in foreign countries, through the “Fair-trade shops” network as well as at the Kam For Sud bazaar.
